The Way of the Compassionate Spirit

In the modern world, we seemed to have lost touch with calm. What a simple concept it is, when we are calm in mind, we can be calm in body, and this makes our lives and everything we do calm, and therefore more enjoyable.

Jin Shin Do

Depression, anger, anxiety, guilt, and other toxic states can intrude on our serenity, and make a joyous life far out of reach. Thankfully, there are natural methods of alleviating such maladies, and returning us to a state of mental and emotional health that allows us to release toxic thoughts and emotions to live a more joyous and calm life. Jin Shin Do is one such practice.

Jin Shin Do

Jin Shin Do is a therapeutic acupressure technique that was created by a psychotherapist named Iona Marsha Teeguarden after she spent years studying different acupressure and meridian theories.

It is described as a synthesis of Qigong exercises, Reichian segmental theory, Chinese acupressure theory, Taoist philosophy, and Japanese acupressure techniques.

Jin Shin Do is basically a combination of modern and ancient forms of acupressure. Otherwise referred to as “The Way of the Compassionate Spirit,” this acupressure technique provides you with a great and practical way to deal with the stress that you face daily.

The reason why Jin Shin Do is currently gaining acceptance around the globe is that it addresses both your emotional and physical pain and tension. It teaches you exercises that can help you relieve yourself of emotional and physical tensions caused by distressing feelings, such as depression, anger, guilt, and anxiety.

Rather than repressing painful feelings, Jin Shin Do will help you transform them into something positive. The goal of this technique is to teach you how to lead a more joyful life and realize your full potential.

The Concept Behind Jin Shin Do

The whole concept of this technique is based on the idea that emotional problems are able to cause tension in your body.

This tension blocks the energy pathways, referred to as meridians, in your body. A Jin Shin Do therapy involves a therapist using their fingers to apply firm but gentle pressure on the tense areas of your body.

Jin Shin Do can be used to combat headaches, digestive problems, insomnia, muscular and emotional stress, respiratory problems, as well as neck, shoulder, and back pain.

Release Of Tension

The pressure that the therapist applies will help with the release of muscle tension. By releasing this tension, a flow of energy will harmoniously spread across your mind and body. Your body will reach a state of relaxation and harmony.

A Jin Shin Do session involves the patient being fully clothed in a very comfortable environment. Before the beginning of a session, you lay face up on a massage table and the therapist asks you what you hope to achieve by taking part in this type of therapy.

The therapist will also ask you if there are any particular areas on your body that they should be cautious around or pay more attention to. As soon as your session begins, your therapist will start firmly pressing the energy points of your body. They will usually start by applying pressure to your neck and shoulders.

The therapist will first press on a tension point of your body and then use their other hand to apply pressure to another point in the body that will help release the blocked energy. During the session, you may be asked to take part in certain activities such as deep breathing.

Deep Relaxation

Deep State of Relaxation

Upon tension release, you will most likely experience a state of deep relaxation and may even feel like falling asleep. This is very normal, since that’s what the state of deep relaxation actually looks like.

Most people have no idea what it’s like to be completely relaxed, since they don’t even notice how much negative emotions have taken over their lives. Even when you’re feeling great the whole day, you can still experience stress due to the tension that has built up in your body over time.

Towards the end of the session, the therapist will once again start applying pressure to your neck and shoulders, then move to the spine, and end at your feet. Apart from being relaxed, some people leave a Jin Shin Do session feeling energized, since they start feeling the energy that’s being released from their tension points.
